Date: December - January. Address: various throughout Rome, Italy.

During the festive season Christmas markets have become popular all over Europe and not just in the area from where they originated; the German-speaking areas of Europe. Rome, Italy's capital and largest city is no exception, where you can find several exciting Christmas markets scattered throughout the centre of the city during the month of December. These street markets celebrate the four weeks of Advent and date back to the Late Middle Ages. Popular attractions at the market traditionally include a nativity scene, the famous German Bratwurst sausage, aromatic Glühwein (mulled wine), Christstollen cake, and of course stalls that sell Christmas gifts and decorations. The largest and most famous Christmas market in Rome takes place at Navona Square. The market normally opens at the beginning of December and closes after the Epiphany on the 6th of January. Navona Square itself is a top tourist attraction in Rome and is there for well worth a visit during the festive season. Other Christmas markets in Rome include Christmas Market at Piazza Re di Roma, Christmas Market at Piazzale Ankara, Christmas Market at Piazza Caprera and the Mercatino Natalizio in Fiumicino.
