Posted 28.02.2014 by Leigh

Date(s): 28/09/2013 - 2/03/2014. Venue: Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Via Nazionale 194, 00184 Rome, Italy.

The National Geographic Society was founded in 1888 by U.S. lawyer, financier, and philanthropist, Gardiner Greene Hubbard. Its motto is 'Inspiring people to care about the planet' and today the society has over 8 million members, publications in many languages and countries and has its own dedicated TV channel.

The exhibition at Palazzo delle Esposizioni provides a record of the National Geographic Society 125 years of 'grande avventura' (great adventure). Visitors are provided with an account of the history of NGS, reflected by the works of some of the Society's greatest photographers who documented and recorded some of the most amazing expeditions to the remotest parts of Planet Earth. They include the journey which led to the discovery of the lost city, Machu Picchu, Robert Peary's journey to the North Pole and the underwater exploits of Jacques Cousteau and James Cameron.
