The last Roman cuisine blog was a short introduction to one of Italy's best loved desserts, tiramisu, and this week we follow up with another world famous Italian 'dolce', Panna Cotta. A simple but very tasty dessert, Panna Cotta can be found on the dessert menu of most restaurants in Italy, as well as Modern European cuisine restaurants throughout out the world. The traditional way of cooking panna cotta requires careful timing and constant observation of the temperature. The thick cream is blended with egg white and honey and then oven baked in a bain-marie at a low temperature. Often outside Italy, the dessert is made over the hob using the simmering technique. Panna cotta is often served with wild berries, caramel, chocolate sauce or a fruit coulis.
