Piazza Navona in Rome is one of the Italian capital's most well-known squares, Piazza being the Italian word for 'square'. The piazza is located on the same site as the Stadium of Domitian which was built way back in the 1st century and the square is formed in the same shape as the ancient stadium's open space. The piazza is famous for its beautiful Renaissance and Baroque architecture, as well as some outstanding buildings and churches which face it. The square also hosts several al fresco bars, cafés and restaurants ensuring that you will have a real Roman buzz when walking around Piazza Navona. Several other monuments can be found in the square, most notably Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers (1651), the 17th century Church of Sant'Agnese in Agone and the Palazzo Pamphilj (1650).
