Posted 16.01.15 by Leigh

Date(s): 03.12.14 - 15.03.15. Venue: Ara Pacis, Lungotevere in Augusta, 00186 Rome, Italy.

Beverly Pepper, born in 1922, is an American sculptress who is known for her land art and public urban sculptures, but she is independent from any specific artistic movement. Her debut was actually in Rome, in 1962, with an exhibit of several carved tree trunks at a gallery in the Eternal city. She now returns to the Italian capital, and for the first time ever, the perimeter around the Ara Pacis Museum is Rome, Italy is being used as a stage to exhibit some of her works. In total, there are four monumental artworks surrounding the Ara Pacis, all of which are between 4 and 5 metres high and represent moments of reflection. Inside the Ara Pacis there are also several steel, tabletop sculptures on display, which have formed a part of the 'Curvae in Curvae' exhibition that has been showcased in galleries in New York and London.
