Piazzale del Giardino Zoologico 1, 00197 Rome, Italy. Telephone: (+39) 06 360 8211.

Rome Zoo is located in the heart of the city on the estate of Villa Borghese, close to famous 'Via Veneto'. The zoo is housed in 42 acres of zoological gardens and is an excellent day out for the whole family, come rain or shine. The zoo was originally opened on the 5th January 1911 for the sole purpose of entertainment, unlike most zoos at the time, which were also created for scientific purposes. In the 1990s it was decided to transform the zoo into a 'biopark' and you will find all types of exotic animals, including lions, leopards, chimpanzees and giraffes.

Entrance fees are currently 14 Euros (adults) and 12 Euros (children).

The closest metro station is 'Spagna' or 'Flaminio' (A/red line). Tram number 19 also has a dedicated stop, 'Bioparco', and there are is also access via several bus routes (3, 52, 53, 926, 217, 360 and 910). If you are travelling by car via the GRA, you should take the 'Salaria centro – Parioli' exit.
